How an ESE Lightning Rod Works
An ESE lightning rod responds to the rapid increase in the atmospheric electric field before a lightning discharge. Its passive triggering structure promotes ionization near the air-terminal tip and encourages the formation of an upward streamer.
Installed at a suitable elevated position, the air terminal is intended to intercept the descending lightning leader before it reaches the protected structure. The resulting lightning current must then be transferred through correctly sized down conductors into an engineered grounding network.
